Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Gets Massive, Free ‘Thank You’ Update with New Area, Bosses, and More!

Fans of the critically acclaimed turn-based RPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, have a lot to look forward to! Developer Sandfall Interactive has announced a major, free content update as a thank you to the community following the game’s massive success, surpassing five million copies sold worldwide since its release in April 2025.

The update, which is currently in development for all platforms, is being framed by the studio as a “thank you” gift, offering significant additions that enhance the late-game experience and overall quality of life.

What’s Coming in the Free Update?

The core additions focus on expanding the world and providing new challenges for veteran players:

• Brand-New Playable Environment: The Expedition 33 characters will travel to a new location with fresh enemy encounters and surprises to discover. This is essentially a new zone for players to explore in the overworld.
• Challenging Late-Game Bosses: New, difficult boss battles are being added specifically for late-game players, offering an extra layer of challenge for those who have mastered the game’s unique real-time mechanics.
• New Costumes: Players will receive new costumes for every member of the Expedition, providing more customization options.
• Expanded Language Support: The update will significantly expand the game’s reach by adding new text and UI localizations for languages including Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, and Turkish, bringing the total supported languages to 19.
• Quality-of-Life Improvements: The developers have also confirmed that “highly requested” quality-of-life upgrades will be part of the patch, though specific details are yet to be revealed.

A ‘Thank You’ to the Fans

Creative director Guillaume Broche stated that the response to the game has been “nothing short of incredible,” with the game’s acclaimed soundtrack alone racking up over 333 million streams. The studio sees the update as a way to show gratitude for the community’s support, creativity, and love for their debut project.

While a firm release date hasn’t been announced, the developers have stated that the update is expected “in the upcoming months.” It’s a fantastic sign for the future of the new IP, with the director having previously hinted that Expedition 33 is just one of the stories they wish to tell in the Clair Obscur franchise.
